Seeking Employment

My Temp Position ended.

For the past week—and this week as well... I've spent 3–4 hours working on my yard every morning (and sometimes some time in the evening as well), trying to get it acceptable for the impending inspection.

Some time ago, I was talking to a friend of mine and he had mentioned to me that when you own your own house, there is a certain desire to do yard work that you never had when you were a kid and taking care of your parent's house. —I tried to feel that when we first bought this place, but I have to respectfully disagree, I still hate it. Perhaps it's that I dislike the desert, or maybe it's my allergies, perhaps my aversion to temperatures that rise above 68° Fahrenheit.

There is a certain satisfaction when I'm done—but I've always had that, be it an art project, or just cleaning the kitchen really really well. In fact, I don't mind cleaning every square inch of the kitchen or bathroom, but I'm really not fond of yard-work.

It has been a blessing to be unemployed at this time, in a weird way. There is no way I would have been able to get the yard looking as good as it is currently, had I been working. So, I think we'll be able to pass the inspection when it comes due. (Speaking of which, I should probably schedule that...)

On the other hand though, I have spent a lot more money than I really can afford, being unemployed, trying to get things looking decent.

I've been tempted to post my resumé here, but something keeps telling me that's not the best idea. If you're interested in seeing it, let me know and I will consider your request (How Conceited of me...).

Speaking of employment, I have an incredible opportunity waiting in the wings—but I'm in the midst of a waiting game, and it's probably two or three months out. Some of the lawyerly stuff went through on Friday, so things are looking great...I've got to last until then however.

Anyone out there need someone with skills in Animation, Video Editing, Photoshop, Illustrator, Traditional Illustration, 3DS Max, or Desktop Support? . . . Anyone?

  1. I feel the same way about yard work, though I guess I am still living at my parents house.

  2. Yea, I hate yardwork, too.

I went to the Jordan Conservation Gardens a few weeks ago and I'm so ready to rip out all my landscaping and put in something better suited to our climate. But alas, that all takes $.

And why the heck does everybody tell you to plan Kentucky Bluegrass? As the JCG they had little patches of different types of grass and it showed how much water had been used on it that month. The Kentucky had used like 730 gallons and the Buffalo grass had used 130 gallons and was JUST AS GREEN!!! So yea, so ready to re-landscape.

My neighbor pulled out lawn and put in a flagstone path and told me where to get the flagstone for .03 and lb. I may be looking into that. And trees should be going on sale since we are nearing season's end so I may look into getting a bunch of trees, too.

I planted a small container garden this year and it's all dead but the tomatoes. Yea, I don't have a green them, either. Maybe it's genetic.

  3. Thanks for all your hard work in the yard!
AS fun as it is to have you home I hope you get a job soon, some insurance to pay for the baby would be nice too.
I want to buy a shade tree when they go on sale. I know we probably won't live here by the time it grows up, but whomever does live here will hopefully appreciate it.

  4. So, I'm all with you. Who wants to be out in the heat doing landscaping. One night I went out at about 10pm, it seemed to be a little cooler when the sun went down.
I'm glad it's looking good though, hard work does pay off, I just wish it cost less $ too. =)
