I just now Submitted my application to the be the Modeller/Animator for the Clark Planetarium.
The Department of Workforce Services Sent me the Job description.
It read as following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Astronomy, Computer Science, Mathematics or other closely related field PLUS one (1) year of experience in a field closely related to these duties; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Digistar programming experience or equivalent and ability to work in 3-D programs such as Lightwave, Maya, or 3-D Studio Max is strongly preferred.
Okay, Granted, I don't have a bachelors Degree in any of those fields, but I have 4 years of schooling.
No I've never programmed a Digistar (Evans & Sutherland Planetarium Projector), but, from what I can tell there's only about 60 installed in the U.S. so there's probably not a lot of people who have used it. Of course this is UT, home to Evans & Sutherland and the Virtual Birthplace of 3D, so there's probably a lot more people qualified to use the Device around here than I previously thought.
At least I can do 3D. I know I can do 3D. And I can Animate.
So I planned to apply in person as per the instructions on the Workforce Services Website.
BUT THEN (Queue Ominous Music)
Searching on the internet for whatever info I could find on programming a Digistar, I came across the Job listing on the Salt Lake County website, and the Requirements were worded Slightly different;and that slight difference in wording was a significant change to the Job Requirements.
Important Information regarding this Position: Digistar programming experience or equivalent and ability to work in 3-D programs such as Lightwave, Maya, or 3-D Studio Max is strongly preferred
See what I Mean?
I Applied anyway - worse they could do is file my application in the "Round File" or "File 13"
File 13? I know it means garbage, but I don't know why.
